There are 2 main types of intercom.
Peltor Compatible
Non Peltor compatible.
Peltor compatible Intercoms are designed to work with Dynamic noise cancelling microphones.
these intercoms are fitted with a 4 pole Nexus connector (fig 1)
The microphones have a low sound signal output and are matched to the compatible intercom.
the microphones does not require a voltage supply from the intercom to make them work.
intercoms are normally fitted with a 4 pole Nexus socket, but Stilo intercoms have a 4 pole plug on the intercom unit. Stilo intercoms have a different plug wiring the conventional Peltor wiring.
Non Peltor compatible Intercoms
These units are normally lower cost devices, they are fitted with a 6.3 mm jack socket with 3 connections. (fig 2)
These intercoms use an electret microphone which requires a voltage from the intercom to make the microphone work.
Electret microphones have a much higher sound level output which is matched to the intercom device.
Compatibility
because of the different types of microphone there is no compatibility between Peltor and non Peltor intercoms
there are some adaptors with the correct plugs and sockets but the microphones will not work even with what appears to be the right adaptor.
A Peltor microphone will not have enough sound output to drive a non Peltor intercom.
A non Peltor microphone will not get the voltage required from Peltor intercom to make it work.
THE ABOVE IS WHY THE DEVICES USE DIFFERENT CONNECTORS
